In this regular update, this tme we review some of the mayoral candidates, find out what they stand for, why they think they’d make a good mayor and how to avoid putting a tick in their box on the voting paper.
Tavish McTavish (independent) Hailing originally from Scotland, Tavish’s family has been farming in the district for generations, and often on land they owned. He thinks it’s time for a change at the council and if elected would run meetings with an emphasis on Druidish principles – minutes recorded in Gaelic as well as with rune stones, and bannock cakes free for all attendees. Known around town for wearing several different tartan kilts at the same time, Tavish is proud to support local indigenous people. “That’s why I sport an emu feather in mae tamoshanter,” he smiles.
Sally Firth (Independent) A committed supporter of animal rights but currently on day release, Sally wants to make VilleDale a safe place for all, including humans. She is particularly interested in issues surrounding the quality of the town’s drinking water. “Swimming lessons for possums is an urgent need,” she says. “And ladders, so they can get out out of the reservoir safely.”
Naomi Withold (Citizens for Free, Fair and Open Government) was unable to supply any information at press time. She suggested however that if anyone wanted to join her in the struggle against bureaucracy and hidden agendas, and fight for open government and freedom of information, they could find her on Facebook and apply to join the special group there.
