A new scheme aimed at cutting back on unnecessary government expenditure by reducing road safety is going really well, according to someone close to Parliament but not authorised to speak publicly on the matter. Or any matter.
The Road Cone Hotline, actually an online form requiring three forms of ID and a credit card, has been in operation for nearly three months, the person said, and already nearly 80 road cones have been reported for improper placement, incorrect stacking or dents.
“A government study estimates there are well over 60 million road cones in use along Courtenay Place alone,” the person added. “That’s a terrible waste of taxpayers’ money that could be better spent on making life sweeter for landlords and other donors to rightwing political parties.”
The Road Cone Hotline is part of a number of Coalition initiatives to reduce government spending, along with reducing long-term dependence on the health system by encouraging the uptake of cigarette smoking at an early age.
