The Weakly Whirled News has, over the years, built an enviable reputation as the place to go for facts that are a lot easier to digest than those found in the mainstream media. Based in small-town New Zealand, the WWNews nevertheless keeps up with events all over the globe as well all the local news.

The team behind the WWNews has been around for a long time, long enough to know that collective nouns take a singular verb, and other things too. One of our first reporters, for instance, was first on the scene on Everest when Norgay and his apiarist porter conquered the peak, but sadly had left his pencil behind at base camp and so was unable to record the momentous occasion. Let’s find out more about the current team:

Al Seddon-Dunne – managing editor.

That pencil-free reporter was, and still is Al, who these days runs the whole shebang with his own office and box of ceremonial pencils, although he now leaves his iPad behind at crucial points in history. Al’s lengthy career in news spans numerous years, some consecutive, and he often says he’s been on the spot for that many world-shattering events he should one day write a book. Or complete an editorial.

A G O’Groffy – features, celebrity profiles and obits.

Old Groff, as he’s known by all those who know him, has been doing the rounds for more years than he can remember, possibly since the early part of this century. These days he concentrates more on feature articles, profiling the rich and famous – alive or dead – and staying awake for Checkpoint.

Carrie Derwhey – local news and community notices reporter.

Carrie comes to WWNews from the lofty heights of corporate journalism and event management. She keeps the community informed of what’s happening around town, and beyond, as well as covering the entertainment world and social media in her inimitable and enthusiastic style that’s seen her walk away with the NZ Journalism Award’s annual Shrieky trophy four years in a row

Duncan Swallow – biscuits, cakes and cuisine editor.

After decades spent as head baker for a local coffee shop, Duncan has hung up his kneading tongs and joined our team covering the gastronomy beat. A seasoned food reviewer, Duncan doesn’t dine out on old work yarns, he just dines out.

Len Zysphogdup – chief photographer and picture editor.

From the battlefields of Eastern Europe to a desk in the western corner of the office, Len has traded his bullet-proof vest and helmet for an official WWNews electric scooter as he goes after the perfect shot, and caption.
