NZ media giant bans twitter and Facebook

NZME., New Zealand’s pre-eminent supplier of news, commentary and celebrity gossip announced today that it would no longer source content from twitter and Facebook.

Acknowledging the conglomerate’s increasing reliance on anonymous tweets and random outbursts on Facebook, editorial spokesperson Kon Terspel-Forshett told WWNews the practice was being phased out. “It may have looked like we had some sort of automated process to grab stuff off the internet, add a click-baity introduction and put it on the web without any fact-checking, but that’s not the case at all,” he said. “We did it manually.”

While certainly cost-effective, the system had its pitfalls, Mr Terspel-Forshett said. “It may have created the perception of an organisation paying scant regard to the basic tenets of journalism, and nothing could be further from the truth. Apart from pages one through ninety.”

The company will roll out the new regime progressively through its titles. Flagship publication the NZ Herlad is the first to be completely free of twitter and Facebook content. “Readers will be impressed by its clean fresh look,” Mr Terspel-Forshett said.

WWNews has been granted exclusive rights to preview the new look in its entirety.

I have corrected a simple spelling error. As it’s a graphic, I’ve had to post it on facebook.
